Pros
Excellent work/life balance. In over a decade of employment I worked overtime maybe six times. If you have a family, this is the reason to work there, assuming this is still the case. The work regularly presented exposure to new technologies, for the professional interest side of things.
Cons
The pay is very, very sub-par for the area. They rarely hire experienced people, and they rarely give substantial raises. Engineering structure is very flat with very few opportunities to move up in responsibilities and thus in pay grade. ADTRAN engineers can build anything, but the marketing and program management types could never decide on a focused, realistic course of action and wait to see it through.
