Pros

Multinational organisation with plenty of disciplines and offices around the globe. Potential opportunities could could come up provided that you know the right people. Good work/life balance and overall benefits that any large organisation offers. Good company to have in your CV. Culture between employees is friendly and pleasant. Good place to start your career for a couple of years.

Cons

The company has a serious problem retaining employees, particularly in the mid senior levels. Main reasons for high staff turnover are the quite low salaries compared to competition, the uninteresting projects, the lack or real opportunities for something different and the politics dictating who is climbing the ladder. Plenty of graduates and plenty of staff close to retirement age does not help the learning process and developing your career.

Pros

Reasonable pay, variety of insurance options to choose from that meet your individual needs, and opportunity to work for multiple business lines

Cons

open office space with not privacy, too many middle managers that do not work on projects, outsourced IT, outsourced billing specialists, upper management comprised of accountants and lawyers, emphasis on high profits is counter to the mission of public works projects

Pros

AECOM provides above average pay, and flexible working hours. Opportunities to work on a variety of interesting projects if you take advantage of working out of your comfort zones.

Cons

Too many middle and senior level managers who do not want to or do not have the skills to work on the technical aspects of projects. Project managers carry the load for this company. It is very frustrating working hard and watching managers of business line disciplines coast through the days, weeks, months, quarter and years. Most of the pressure and accountability is placed on project managers. Lack of training. AECOM does not encourage technical training outside of the AECOM training modules, which is mainly internal management or internal procedures regarding prject management, time cards etc. If you want to learn how to use engineering software, AECOM very rarely pays for useful technical training with outside providers to learn engineering techniques, technical computer programs etc. Open space concept is terrible. Very noisy, cramped working quarters. Many people do not work at the office on a consistent basis to collaborate on projects because they work from home to avoid the noisy and cramped working space. Therefore, you can only communicate with some team members on projects by e-mail and phone, which is very inefficient.
