Pros

High starting wages compared to other companies in the same field.

Cons

- There are no chances for growth except for transferring within the company to a different department. - The site lead and management DO NOT care about the workers at ALL. (You are simply just a number to them.) - Most of your co-workers will have negative attitudes. Due to being in a dead in job for over 5 years and still making the same amount of money as the day you started.

Pros

- AECOM does a lot of work on interesting projects and difficult engineering dilemmas, so work is usually interesting depending on the department - AECOM has designated branding standards and lots of templates to choose from, so there is no confusion about branding or standards to use - People in the office are also usually friends outside of the office and depending on the department will celebrate birthdays and other social occasions which is a nice break from the normal grind of work

Cons

- The company has major cultural issues that make it difficult to work and be productive (e.g. managers not on the same page, credit-seeking/stealing, limited knowledge of subject matter, always trying to one-up one another, very hostile environment at work, etc.) - Pay among men and women differs considerably regardless of knowledge or experience; many times the men with less experience in an "easier" field will earn more than the women with considerable experience in a more difficult subject matter - Limited room for growth and upward momentum: again, not much room for women to move up in the company and the majority of managers and supervisors are men, however I imagine it's hard for anyone to get a promotion at any level - Promotions, when given, are also not accompanied by any raise in salary: most employees who are promoted do not see any increase in salary even though duties often accumulate and exceed what was originally expected - Lay-offs are very common, especially since the buy-out and tend to target specific departments (often times whole departments are laid off all at once) - Many times management makes it hard for various departments to do their job by steam-rolling them or blocking them from finding projects to work on - All time must be "sold" or directly related to an on-going job in order to count; if you're not "sold" you're going to be sent home without pay

Pros

-Nice office, great location in Clarendon -Some great people -Reasonable stability within the federal planning practice -The work is not particularly challenging This is an interesting job to see how massive companies work, and what kinds of people tend to stay in them.

Cons

Note--the "federal planning" planner position is actually a military planning position. Military planning is all you do, and you are discouraged or prevented from working on any other planning work that might be remotely interesting. -Very high employee turnover 4-5 people leave (a studio of around 30) within 1-2 years -Very little training, and no significant leadership/mentorship -Slow middle management (more regressive than progressive, not encouraging of professional development or anything other than business-as-usual) -Very few opportunities to move up or develop within the company (in the "federal" planning section) -Benefits are getting less attractive each year -No HR support (for benefits, workplace violations, assistance, even responding to emails...)
