Acquisitive Growth-ing Pains

Pros

Great co-workers. Excellent experience with significant responsibility early and often. Senior engineers have great experience and are more than willing to work with and mentor junior staff.

Cons

1. Acquisitive growth versus organic growth has caused AECOM a number of significant operational issues: The company has no clear and sensible business plan. 2. Too many inexperienced business development and marketing managers that have no clear business plan (see # 1 above) and do not understand business basics such as risk vs reward, important commercial contractual terms, and the need to identify valuable pursuits early. 3. Compensation: poor annual raises, bonuses, incentives, and benefits despite positive performance reviews.

Pros

Well, they did pay me and allowed me to work from home on occasions. Major projects to work on and a lot of variety.

Cons

The only reason this company has a rating of 2.5 is because reviewers can't give 0 and the scores of 5 smell of corporate damage control. It's a negative culture at AECOM and the company is run by people with questionable honesty, integrity and capability. They are even trying to identify who is making the negative posts on Glassdoor and making accusations against people who don't play the AECOM game. The staff with technical skills are treated like second class citizens with the result that they are now leaving and joining the opposition. AECOM thinks they can just replace these people who have years and years of experience and are leaders in the engineering field with baby-faced graduates or rejects from other companies. The technical standard at AECOM has dramatically declined and clients are waking up. This company will make you miserable, suck your energy, knowledge and ideas and then spit you out for not meeting utilisation targets. No matter how much effort you put in, it's never enough and you'll never be thanked or appreciated. You'll be bullied and harrassed, given ludicrous deadlines with little support, criticised publicly for any mistake, Don't bother complaining to HR because they won't do anything. Well, adios AECOM. Hope you go broke and join Enron in infamy.

Pros

Ability to work for a well recognized company with opportunities to work in other countries. Large network of people with huge range of skills and industry recognition can be extremely helpful when competing on tenders for projects or when working on them.

Cons

Felt like a factory. Worked 10+ hour days with no recognition for efforts in middle east offices. Practically no opportunity for professional development. Ineffeiciences through hiring of cheaper staff with knowledge and training not up to par. Leaves huge stress on well educated and practical staff who have the ability to deal with engineering challenges outside the code/textbook "I can follow a recipe" approach. HR and senior management a joke - HR treat all staff as expendable due to the sluggish local economy.
