Pros

My time spent in AGC's 8-week internship program has been a transformative experience. The concentrated nature of the program, requiring exclusive dedication to AGC's operations throughout the duration, facilitated an immersive dive into the world of investment banking. What truly sets this internship apart is the nature of the work assigned – interns are entrusted with real deals and whitepapers that find publication by the firm. There is no busy work, showcasing AGC's solid belief in its interns' capabilities and commitment to delivering meaningful, hands-on experience. A noteworthy facet of the program is the dedicated mentorship. Each intern is paired with a mentor who offers guidance not only on AGC-related tasks but also on broader career and life decisions. AGC's culture is a harmonious blend of intellectual acumen and diligent work ethic. The challenging aspects of the internship are balanced by a sense of achievement, making it an optimal environment for those seeking to learn and flourish within investment banking. The engagement of partners and CEO, Ben Howe, in interns' growth is palpable. Ben's hands-on approach, quick familiarization with interns' names, and proactive meetings to share insights demonstrate the supportive environment AGC fosters. Additionally, the internship strikes a healthy balance between banking work and fun, featuring regular Thursday outings and a well-utilized ping-pong table that allows interns and analysts to blow off some steam in the office. Lastly, AGC brings on interns with the expectation to hire them. Every intern in my class received a return offer. If you work hard and demonstrate your ability, AGC will recognize your efforts.

Cons

One aspect worth noting is the demanding nature of the work hours, which reflects the dedication expected in the professional investment banking field. This aspect, while challenging, is crucial in providing interns with an authentic experience that mirrors the demands of the industry. Moreover, AGC actively supports a healthy lifestyle by offering an on-site gym and encouraging interns to engage in daily workouts. This initiative not only helps balance the long hours but also underscores AGC's commitment to the holistic well-being of its interns.

Pros

AGC is an incredibly unique firm that offers unparalleled experience, skills, and camaraderie. First and foremast, AGC has a better culture than any other bank or group on the street. Fit is a significant hurdle in the interview process, which helps cultivate both a senior and junior cohort that are great to work with. These individuals obviously check the box of being smart, interesting, and motivated but that likely isn't too dissimilar from most other shops around. What makes the culture unique is the intense collaboration and friendship. When you are in the engine room for 80-100 hours a week, it is imperative that you foster friendships with the team around you in order to make your experience a group effort as opposed to an isolating individualistic one. At AGC, everyone in my class and the classes around me instantly become very close friends, collectively discussing questions and complex problems during work hours and hanging out after hours. I am proud to say that I've made lifelong friends at AGC. Beyond the culture, AGC provides an unparalleled working experience at the junior level. I have a number of friends who worked at larger New York investment banks, including my sister who worked at a premier bulge bracket. I can say after consultation with those individuals that AGC, without a doubt, offers far more at the junior level when it comes to developing your client communication skills (as a first year, I was leading calls with the client after I had proven my ability to execute the topic of discussion effectively), complex modeling skills (first years are expected to begin taking the reigns on the operating model / funds flow), and experience (after two years, all the analysts in my class had closed 5+ deals). Finally, AGC provides a platform for all when it comes to career development. While at other firms, anything other than rising through the ranks is considered taboo, AGC fosters a culture where all are encouraged to pursue whatever career path best fits them (i.e. staying at AGC as an associate, PE, or corporate development). AGC is the only firm I've heard of that brings in alumni who chose to move onto PE / corporate development to share their experience on recruiting / that career path. Those that have chose this path have landed at extremely successful shops and have done very well due to the experience AGC provided. For those who want to continue on their banking journey, AGC offers accelerated promotion cycles and above market compensation. In conclusion, I couldn't speak more highly about AGC and would strongly encourage all looking into investment banking to seriously consider AGC.

Cons

Like all investment banks, the junior team is expected to work long hours.

Pros

If you are a go-getter or generally smart, you will thrive at AGC. It is truly a sink or swim place in that you will be thrown into the fire immediately. There is a 2-week training program, but it is nothing to prepare for jumping into deals half a month into starting. The upside is that you learn a ton, and you learn it fast. There are analysts full-on running deals without PMs or guidance - something you will not find anywhere else. The exposure to SaaS founders, CEOs, and entrepreneurs is pretty unparalleled; combined with constant interaction with potential buyers exposes analysts to the world of tech. Also would note that the culture has come a long way from the previous reviews on this site - the Company does well putting on events / outings for the junior staff, and the team is very close. Everyone hangs out outside of the office and are truly friends. Leadership is also very flexible with things like working from AGC's other offices - nice if you want to spend a week in New York or London.

Cons

As the other reviews highlight, and as is standard throughout the industry, the hours are very tough - particularly for the first 6-9 months. Analysts can expect to work very late and most likely on weekends. The key to surviving at AGC is to keep a positive attitude - it can be easy to get frustrated with mundane or seemingly useless tasks. Working on business development work or research is just part of the job given the size of the Company. It can also sometimes be difficult to balance expectations and work prioritization - the volume of deals is insane; it is not uncommon for analysts to be on 4-6 live deals at the same time. The firm has so many Partners fending for their own interests, each with their own standard of how they like things done, combined with inexperienced/lackluster leadership from project managers who think they are god's gift to investment banking. Very old school style authority - gotta have thick skin at AGC
