Pros

AGC serves as a great place to learn a ton in a short amount of time. Due to the leaner deal teams, analysts are able to take on more responsibility at earlier stages compared to other investment banks, allowing for quicker development of key skills. Sometimes this can feel a bit overwhelming, but it is beneficial in the long run. Another great aspect of the firm is the culture, particularly amongst the junior team. With the long hours it is important to actually enjoy being around your colleagues and this holds true at AGC. The Company also hosts various outings and events outside of work that help build camaraderie and blow off steam. Furthermore, if you have any interest in tech or software, AGC offers unparalleled exposure to software/tech companies across countless verticals. You will learn what separates a good company from a great company, which is vital in any career path. Finally, there is ample room to work your way up the internal promotion ladder given you demonstrate strong performance, which tends to be faster and more merit based than other banks.

Cons

There are long hours required, especially in the first year as that is when everything is new and takes longer to learn. You will be required to work some weekends as well when a deal is especially active.

Pros

In the two years I spent at the firm, I was able to get the full AGC experience and have been extremely grateful for my time here. AGC assigns relatively lean teams to a project, meaning you get a great deal of first-hand experience as an analyst. Given the high expectations the team has for all employees, this may lead to a steep learning curve, but those who are willing to put in the work are certainly rewarded for their efforts. Additionally, AGC gives its new employees plenty of opportunities to develop, with daily trainings throughout the week to ensure the team is water-tight when it comes executing the fundamentals across all projects. Moreover, you get great experience pulling together financial analyses, marketing materials, and working closely with both management and investors throughout a process; you would be hard pressed to find another investment bank that gives their younger employees this much responsibility so early in their career. Ultimately, AGC does a tremendous job of preparing you to either become a career investment banker or make a transition to a tangential field. Provided you decide not stay on to become a career investment banker, you will find great opportunities to exit to leading private equity firms, larger strategics with strong corporate development offices, or nearly any other career of your choosing. More importantly, the culture at AGC is phenomenal. The team does a great job of putting together corporate outings on a regular basis, which includes tickets to Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots games, as well as more involved events such as the annual Christmas Dinner, Summer Outing, or Miami Trip. All in all, your analyst class, fellow junior bankers, as well as many of the senior team members will become close or even lifelong friends that you can reach out to at any time. AGC does a great job of recruiting the best and the brightest, and there is nothing I am more grateful for than the close friendships I have made and the memories and fun times we shared together during my time here.

Cons

As with any investment bank, there can be long hours and high expectations. While this is industry-standard, this is also one of the most important factors to ensure you learn fast and are able to become a proficient junior banker.
