Rewarding and Fun

Pros

I find my job to be very rewarding, challenging, and fun. Each class and each student provide a unique challenge that keeps things interesting. I also enjoy the flexibility in hours and the way I can work closely with my students and build relationships with them.

Cons

Working super late sometimes, but it's reasonable as we all make our own schedules. It is manageable :)

Pros

My coworkers were the best, smart! The majority of the team members were young, energetic and care about education. AJ really supported me with extensive training and continual support even after I felt comfortable. Great pay (for me, at least); I started at $35/hr.

Cons

The worst part of the job was communicating with those parents with unrealistic expectations. There are some tools we for handling that but I found it a bit awkward on occasion. AJ expects a lot, really high quality expectations...daily. You have to be committed, diligent, and execute exceptional work...I mean we are talking about the futures for these students so it is fair, but not a job for slackers. Finally, the hours are not ideal. Lots of evenings and weekends.

Pros

The students were great to work with, but then again I was only given a few. The company does some great community outreach in the area.

Cons

My team leader hardly ever assigned students to me even though I told her this was my only job. And then I find out that management give the students to Team Leaders and Veteran Tutors first before the new tutors like me. It's evident, specially in social gatherings, that this company has formed elite cliques internally and have left out the new employees. After all, the new tutors will be gone by next year anyways. If you are a new hire, expect to leave after the school year is over. This company will starve you to death during the summer months.
