Pros

-Free movies -Popcorn/drink/icee/discounted food when working -Get to switch job tasks a lot, one day your an usher, another your concession or selling tickets. -Some really interesting coworkers.

Cons

-Favoritism is rampant. -Not a lot of advancement opportunities unless you want to move to another theatre. -Ever changing management staff, right when you get a good manager they either get promoted or sent to a different theatre. -Management seems to not be aware of issues in the theatre like the icee machines not working...or just write it off that the machine isn't big enough to handle the demand...when the machine hasn't worked the entire time I've worked there(1+ years) -Needs higher wages. You get higher wages for less work at fast food places. -High prices, if you don't sneak in food when your watching movies on your day off your going to be spending at least 2 hours worth of work just to afford popcorn and drink. -Feels like management randomly go on write up binges. You won't hear about your coworkers getting write ups and then all off a sudden 5 people will get write ups and you won't see 2 people on the schedule anymore. Makes for pretty low morale. -Feeling of being easily replace-able so you better not mess-up. -Management and home office need to understand how slow they are making transactions with the scripts that they are requiring for every transaction. It used to be a transaction in 60 seconds or less, but now it takes 60 seconds just to go through all the prompts that are required. Half of which the guest has already heard while buying tickets. By the time they get to the concession stand they are irritated and late, which sets a bad tone for suggestive selling. It sorta feels like walking through a mine field for every guest. (stubs card? don't have one? i now have to tell you about it even though from you body language I can tell you really don't want it. Explain about current promotion. Suggestive sell items that they haven't ordered.) All the while not only is your current guest irritated, but everyone behind them is as well. And if anyone does actually buy a stubs card everyone behind them just becomes so irritated. -Get ready to be scheduled for close-opens. ie get out of work at about 1:30am and be back at 8 or 9am.

Pros

At the supervisor level, I learned a lot about back office operations and also cash handling. You are given the ability to delegate tasks onto other associates which builds my leadership skills. I'm a business management student, and everything I learn at school and everything I do at work go hand in hand.

Cons

Very hard to move up or to get a raise. It is also hard to get accurate feedback from superiors. One manager will say something good about me, another will say decent things about me, but the most important manager will have the worst feedback for me. Promotions and raises are mostly given by favoritism instead of actual competence. I'm a 23-year-old business student, I know everything there is to know about numbers, managing employees, and taking care of back office tasks, but they would rather give an 18-year-old apple-polisher the open manager position.
