Every BU is different, however, they all have their hierarchy of problems.
There are a lot of managers who micromanage beyond belief, no room to pitch in ideas or contribute anything.
Daily calls, just to show who is boss and micromanage daily tasks.
Salary is not competitive, no bonus, and no incentives. Just saying the company didn't do well this year is how they continue year after year, but managers and VP's etc, they all make their bonuses.
But again those managers, just take orders from the BU managers, which yell at their subordinates in the hallways, treat them badly, and then when their decisions go awry because they don't know what they are doing, they then just try to point the finger at someone, to be their sacrificial lamb. So in essence they never look bad, since they know someone by the CEO's side, which always bails them out. They can bring business units to the ground, but it's the employee's fault instead of the person in charge of that BU unit. Insane..
HR is not there for you, they are there to keep them from being sued.
HR does not keep things confidential, everyone knows everything. (again not all BU's are the same)
There isn't any transparency on the goals of the department or company.
So if you are planning on applying for any of their BU's, ask questions, ask carefully asked questions, to address these things, such as daily tasks, how many people in the department, etc, etc, etc. Because the less the number of people, the more work you will likely have to do, without extra pay or extra consideration. (they do not reward extra effort, the highest they do, is a breakfast and then rub t in your face that they paid it out of pocket)
