Pros

The facilities were great. There was an on-site Starbucks, lunch cafe with discount and of course the gym. At AMN many employees had the opportunity to use state-of-the-art software and systems. This allowed many to stay competitive in the job market and ultimately leave the company. That is the only reason I am giving AMN 2 stars. The high work volume and short deadlines, has allowed me to currently outperform my peers. So I guess that was another positive

Cons

Where do I start? There was definitely an emphasis on getting as much work done as humanly possible, which created hardly any work/life balance. There was a constant pressure to meet deadlines, some of which were unrealistic. It seemed those who were efficient got bombarded with even more work to do to make up for the others who couldn't keep up. My regret was not pushing back on the work I was expected to complete. Despite the heavy workload, overtime was discouraged and rarely allowed. We even received emails stating we were not allowed to work ANY overtime. Yet plenty of hourly employees simply clocked out and continued to work to meet deadlines expected of them. Those who chose to continue to work "off the clock" did so on their own accord. So it was partly our fault for allowing it to happen in the first place. Still, the company has a responsibility to its employees and their wellbeing. Per California labor law and federal law, AMN has a legal responsibility to pay non-exempt employees for their total hours worked. Speaking of pay, the salaries at AMN for non-upper management are absolutely bottom of the barrel when compared to similar positions at other companies across San Diego County. We are talking 30-40% below market rate. There is/was always a constant stream of people leaving. Every few weeks invites to yet another "Going away" happy hour/party were received. It was yet another person who was intelligent enough to realize they were worth more. They finally put themselves out there and saw their full potential and value outside of AMN. Leaving AMN was THE best professional decision of my life. I certainly don't regret it.
