Pros

Pay at the location I worked at was very good (considering the industry average) Unlimited OT. Pay for your EMT to Paramedic upgrade with usually a 1-2 year obligation. Flexible schedule. (All of this depends on your actual operation, AMR is drastically different from operation to operation, even within the same state.)

Cons

No consistency with management, even within the same shift. Rarely get off on time. (usually 1-2 hours past downtime) Poor benefits across the board. (All of this depends on your actual operation, AMR is drastically different from operation to operation, even within the same state.)

Pros

Entry level job into the medical field. This will provide you great experience as a future fire fighter, paramedic, RN, PA, NP, or MD. My branch provided run bonuses on completed calls. Bonuses were worth more on weekends and overnights. You will have stories to tell, and great experiences that shape your career in the medical field. Staying up to date on pharmacology, A&P, and pathophysiology while on the job. Flexible schedule for part-time employees. This job can be worked VERY part time, and can allow employees the opportunity to work and go to school. When there is no call, you can return to quarters and relax.

Cons

Low hourly wage, and long working hours. Hours ranged from 8h,10h,16h, and 24h. Long hours are just part of the job.
