Pros

Pay is excellent, job is very straightforward

Cons

I keep seeing emails that state "book offs" (calling out) are banned for the weekend (or some other period of time). This is unsafe and absurd.

Pros

-Beautiful area in SB County -Great crews -Lots of 12hr units at all times -7ish 24hr stations -Good supervisors - Several cities of low socioeconomic status + large elderly population means a lot of good trauma and medical calls daily -I get more experience in a day of work in Santa Maria than several months in LA county

Cons

-We do force hires and mandatory shifts, the former being you could be asked to stay at work for another 12-24+ hours to fill empty slots as a 911 operation cannot go unstaffed -Critical employment status - not enough people means getting mandatory and forced all the time so your 12 or 24hr base schedule shifts plus the one overtime shift you picked up plus whatever else turns into a ton of work weekly
