Pros

The experience running 911 emergency calls is a great transition into the EMS world. Many chances to obtain double-time/overtime.

Cons

As an EMT and even a paramedic aren't paid as well as they should be for the work

Pros

Independence, flexible work schedules. Great life/work balance. Ability to move freely within the company. Lots of advancement opportunities. Plenty of overtime and sometimes double time. Time and a half $$$ after 8 hours on every shift. Serve a very large and diverse population base. Educational opportunities and scholarships for those who seek it. Limited management oversight?as long as you’re doing your job). Very well organized union.

Cons

Negative attitudes. A lot of the personnel feel entitled to earning a higher wage with limited education or time with the organization. The young mindset generate their complaints from the public industry counterparts who put in a substantially more amount of work hours. Health benefits and 401k contribution could use improvement (8/4% match).
