Pros

Of the three divisions in the ICEMA is the better one to work for. You have a better working relationship with the other local emergency agencies. Less egos. Limited resources gives you better opportunities for experience. Double time is pretty easy to come by when staffing levels are low, which is often. Union and management work well with each other. Management is very receptive and approachable. Preceptor pay. Flexible work schedule. 401k match; 5% employees, 4% employer. Other divisions offer 6% employee; 3% employer.

Cons

Salary and upward advancement is limited. It’s the smaller of three divisions in ICEMA so we tend to be an afterthought to the powers that be. Long distances between post moves can make your day long if you’re getting ping-ponged. 24 hour shifts can be bruisers. Not only do you get woken up consistently for late night calls, you often get woken up for post moves. Health benefits are one step above nothing. They are very expensive for such a large copay amount.

Pros

AMR is a great company to work for. AMR invests in its workforce, offers higher education/growth opportunities, and has strong employee retention.

Cons

I can't think of anything other than the fact that working in EMS is stressful.

Pros

Will hire anyone...if you need the experience get in and get out quick. There are plenty of other opportunities out there that will pay more.

Cons

Horrible management and communication. Management will hold grudges. If you don’t work overtime management will never respond to missed calls and emails. Pay sucks for experienced or non experienced personnel. Also if your not a young attractive girl you will get the runaround every time.
