Pros

Greatly diverse company with exceptional forward thinking on the cutting edge of online retail. Almost everything is done in house from photography of product to design of the site to the programming of the IT systems including the POS system and the website makes the company incredibly flexible and swift at implementing solutions in short periods of time. Working here you will rub shoulders with masters of their trade and a wealth of experience which would allow you to grow as a person and learn new skills yourself. Company benefits are top notch as well and the company truly cares about you. Cost oif living adjustments, pay raises, company bonuses, parties and events as well as special days all add to the and benefit of working here. Costco membership, Points assigned to send to other employees when they do good work, discount on products we sell, the list goes on - we even have a in house cafe that is stocked by a 3rd party company so you dont have to leave the building to get lunch if you havent packed one and if you have fridges to store your personal items in. Management gives you the freedom to do your job and make the decisions you are faced with on a daily basis with out seeking approval higher up the chain which often prevents the person from being efficient at their job which is great - more can be done in less time through us owning our own decisions and finding the best path forward. Incredibly diverse work force and a friendly environment are all also benefits of the company culture. Internal promotion and training is often seen at Amain!

Cons

Currently the growth of the company is exceptional and the only true con I could identify is that we are sailing in uncharted waters. This being said there is a LOT of finding our way through scenarios that we have not been through yet. We find our way exceptionally well and I commend the decision makers for their accuracy of predictions which have been thus far more than 95% accurate. Exceptional leaders seen here may start needing to share some of the "how they do what they do" as we grow to best suit us in our terms of future growth with out taking down time to train new additions to the management team in the near future.

Pros

I worked at AMain for 7 years and it was definitely one of the most memorable and rewarding jobs I have ever had. The culture was fun and you felt more like a family than a company. The owners are amazing. When I was unemployed in they helped me to Chico to take up a full time job at AMain. I've seen the generosity of the company over the years. They go above and beyond to help. Easy to move laterally in the company. PERKS. So many perks at the company. Discounts, snack store on location, peer points system, company activities, Christmas Bonus Checks, Costco Membership, Gym discount, Annual Bonus, Christmas/Summer parties and the list goes on. SUPER FLEXIBLE. This was one of the main reasons I worked here for so long as they allowed me a lot of flexibility with a work life balance with work hours and ease of asking for PTO. YOU DON'T FEEL EXPENDABLE. Here they really try to make each person feel like a person. You aren't just an expendable employee. NO MICROMANAGEMENT. They don't hover over you and micromanage what you are doing on a minute to minute basis.

Cons

Big company decisions are made in secret by management and owners then presented to staff after the decision is made without letting the employees weigh in before they make a decision. Compensation was low compared to other companies in Chico and prices on everything have risen to where its hard to make a living on what they pay. Hard to move up in the company. Chico is getting expensive. Hard to gauge whether they (management) think you are doing a good or bad job.

AMain Response

Hi, Thanks for the feedback, we appreciate it. I would like to respond here a bit. Of course big company decisions are made in secret by management. Most of the time when we're weighing or looking into big changes, we are held to NDA's which prevent us from discussing items. Also, most employees are not aware of the big picture such as our operating budget and company financials, which are important when making company decisions. Believe me, as soon as decide on some 'change' we communicate it with the company. We do have all employee company meetings every 6 months to create a forum to communicate the big company news and have question/answer sessions. We also provide monthly communications via our newsletter to provide current happenings. We actually are reviewing our compensation levels across the board now as we realize increases are needed since the economic impact to our area since the Camp Fire, but have always felt we provide competitive wages. We do give exit interviews, so unsure why you did not receive one. Yes, we do need to be better about sitting down with employees and providing feedback and communication as formal performance reviews. As a growing business, this has always been a challenge and one we're working on. We send out an annual employee satisfaction survey, but are always ensuring we know the pulse of the company and responding where needed, as needed, with fairness and with the goal to make AMain a fun, yet fulfilling and meaningful, place to work.

Pros

Amain has been an excellent company to work for within the Chico community for years. The company not only strives to be the best in their area of business, but additionally ensures that the Employees receive ample training in all aspects of not only their personal job duties, but as well as providing time to learn about the products that are sold at the business. Offering Flexible work hours, good benefits packages, and a relaxed low stress environment all brings the complete package of working at Amain day in and day out an excellent choice. Employees are often socializing in different break locations through out the building, talking about anything and everything to one another; including business specific topics such as Radio Control and Cycling. About 1/3 of the employees actively participate either in R/C in some way, or are cycling too and from work. These employees are a critical part of the business, as they can socialize with other employees (old or new!) and talk to them about what they do outside of work, and possibly sparking interest in another employees mind about checking out a new R/C toy, or getting back on a bicycle!

Cons

Location: California sure likes their cut of taxes! (This is not really the fault of Amain).
