Pros

-Very knowledgable and freindly employees -Consistently work as a team. There's no "one man for himself" -Supportive management that wants you to succeed no matter what your position or tenure is -Long-term career potential -Promotion normally after 1 year sometimes sooner. -Ability to relocate ANYWHERE even overseas. -Great work life balance. 37.5 hr work week. Period. -Entry level pay is very competitive. Full benefits I could go on and on about the benefits of this company. If you are looking to start a career in logistics and shipping, I would highly suggest you start here OR with another steam ship line. People who normally get into the industry start off in a 3PL. These companies though large and very profitable, work their employees to the bone, have 24-7 "availability", and are all around a dirty and cutthroat business, especially for entry level employees. If you want to go home and feel proud about the work that you do and feel accomplished, I would recommend APL.

Cons

-Decision making can be difficult. Some of the work you do has to be sent to other countries for approval. Takes some time to get back to a customer. -Antiquated systems. They take some time getting used to but they have all of the information that you need. Currently, not another product to replace on the same level. -Both a Pro and a Con. Must be willing to relocate. APL has regional offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Newark, and Los Angeles with US HQ in Scottsdale. Starting off in this position is not career and every manager wants you to move on from this learning position. That said, the staff in these offices are made up of SSR's, Area Managers, and some Account Managers for their respective states of the area offices. On promotion either to an Account Manager role or a role at HQ, you have to be willing to move if there is not an open position in your city if you want advancement. If you're young and without a family, its great.

Pros

I have none. I simply like going to sea to make a living, and do so with apl. Other than this - there isn't any.

Cons

Apl is either unwilling or incapable of paying their employees electronically. They can pay us an allotment electronically every two weeks, but at the end of a voyage, they offer their sailors two options: a cash payoff on the ship or a check sent to the address of their choosing. I'm overseas on a ship, i bank electronically. So sending my paycheck fifteen time zones from where i am at doesn't help me. Offering me a cash payoff? What am i going to do with thousands of dollars in cash? This is ridiculous. Having to ask my parents to forge my signature to cash my paycheck because the company i work for cannot figure out how to offer electronic deposit for their sea- going employees, is amazingly insulting. I have heard they do payroll by hand, not wanting to pay a license fee to use the proper software to do payroll. This is obtuse thinking, and indicative of why they're being bought out and overtaken. I cannot believe this is 2016 and we cannot get paid in a way that is convenient and cognizant that we are away from home for literally months at a time. Their payroll system is decades, literally decades behind the times. If i worked in the home office I'd be looking for a new job. If you are in charge of payroll and read this review: you are either unfathomably stupid or unpardonably lazy.

Pros

not much that i can think of.

Cons

Benefits are not good. Pay is relatively low compare to other liner company. increment is bad too. Not much of work-life balance as working OT is normal in this company. Culture wise, not professional as most of the people here spend too much time on lunch.
