Pros

transportation is a very interesting industry - plenty of complex and diverse areas to learn about, and room to move around in the company. Great front-line, collaborative people. Mostly matured IT processes and procedures without being stiffling. You work with the world - very international and multi-cultural.

Cons

This company is a wholly owned subsidiary of NOL which is a Singapore company. The upper management culture, especially concerning IT, became very Singapore-centric in the past 5 years. It has been difficult for corporate execs to appreciate the extent of value-add of long-time, experienced US staff given their higher bottom-line costs vs Asia personnel.

Pros

It still have some decent benefit. I am sure this will change now they have relocated to Phoenix.

Cons

This was a very good company to work for. Excellent pay, benefits, and training oppotunites. But this is no longer the case since NOL bought APL.. All good opportunities, projects, training, and promotion happens only in Singapore, not in US. US employees' key roll is to keep day to day business running. We rarely have any more opportunity to participate in any new initiatives which only take place in Singapore. We also see gradual erosion of benefit.

Pros

Without a doubt, the family atmosphere and caring coworkers is the best reason to work at APL. Many people have worked there decades, literally, and their dedication inspires you to work harder.

Cons

The pyramid narrows steeply at the top, and the company is not diverse enough in its senior management. More women and minorities (in the US) need to be recruited and retained.
