Paid to Stay but glad to be Gone

Pros

Safe and Clean inside shop and in office. Pay was good enough to stay (until something else came along). Outside the presidents office and top supervisors, everyone seems to get along great. Insurance was nice to have and not a bad price for coverage. Christmas and Summer Parties were nice, the two days the president seemed like a great guy.

Cons

President and top supervisors (shop supervisors) are mean and push for more from everyone. Don't be fooled by the idea that this is an 8hr per day job (even for salary folks). Many employees are shocked to learn they don't have a choice about travel too. Ask anyone that works there, if they could leave, they would. They sent supervisors to anger managment, even fired one mean supervisor, but going to take more. They don't consider that these supervisors are mean by nature and going to take a lot to change their behavior.

I appreciate your constructive criticism. Because of your review, we met with ASC supervisors to discuss your comment about supervisors being "mean". I do not agree that any supervisor at ASC is inherently mean, but I do know that stressful conditions on the shop floor (ie. late deliveries, problem employees, etc.) might cause supervisors and mangers to appear mean when they speak to their employees. I have reinforced the message to all supervisors to try to be fair, professional and courteous with employees when discussing work assignments, even if you're having a bad day. Thanks for your review.

Gosh

Pros

I miss many of the people that work there. Nice building. Hard to come up with much more to make the 20 word minimum.

Cons

Everyone has more to do than any one person can accomplish in an 8 or 9 hour day. When you ask for help, it doesn't come. This is the result of tasks being assigned with no respect for how long they take to do. Thus, everyone was always putting out fires.

Thanks for your feedback. It appears that you left soon after we moved into our new facility. As you know, those were hectic days, especially when trying to move the company AND at the same time trying to ship a record quantity of autoclaves. Our workload grew tremendously in 2010, and unfortunately we were unable to hire enough qualified people quickly enough to keep up with the workload. The result was lots of overtime. Once we were finally up and running and we managed to hire enough people, the excessive overtime was no longer required. Good luck with your career.

Pros

The company is the largest autoclave manufacturer in the world. As a result, they are very busy and there is lots of engineering work. You're given lots of responsibility and use lots of design software, including Inventor, FluidFlow, ANSYS, and other analysis programs. You work with a good bunch of engineers, one engineering supervisor, and the chief engineer. You're expected to design and manage equipment projects independently, which allow you to learn a lot about the equipment. The pay is decent and the 401K plan has great matching (100% up to 6%).

Cons

Because they are very busy, many of the jobs are tight on schedule. The result is that engineering is behind and production is behind. This creates extra stress, especially if your project is late. They're trying like mad to hire more people, but we're told that it's difficult to find good shop and engineering people. Management has very high expectations of engineers. The president and owner gets involved in some major projects and he is very demanding - if you're on the wrong side of a situation, he can be abrasive. This is definitely not a low-stress job.
