Pros

-Strong mission and people who strongly believe in it -Incredibly rewarding work -Decent pay - good for animal welfare/NGOs, but not great compared to other industries -Good benefits -Great 401(K) - 8% match between safe harbor and ASPCA contribution

Cons

-There is so much red tape at the ASPCA, it's insane. As someone else mentioned, everything has to be signed off on by your boss' boss' boss, so it takes forever to move forward on anything (if you even ever get permission). It makes innovation impossible, which is a detriment to the animals. -Everyone has to have their two cents in everything. You have people who don't have any expertise in your area trying to tell you what to do. They say it's "collaboration," but really, the org is full of know-it-alls. -Management is put on a thrown, and people feel the need to bow down to those at a higher level. -Constant meetings. No one has enough time to get their work done because they are in back-to-back meetings everyday, which is exhausting and leads many to working more than 40 hours/wee.

Great Mission / Poor Managers

Pros

The mission and the work to help animals keeps you motivated to do your best. Many people here care about the work and it's very inspiring. The pay and benefits are above what you will receive at other NGOs, especially in the animal welfare space.

Cons

The interview and hiring process takes forever, so unless you're patient you may not even get the position. "Breaking down silos" leads to everyone having to add their two cents to your work. Someone from another department and a bloated title will tell you how to do your job "better" without much issue area expertise. No one can make a decision until your boss's boss's boss signs off. You will spend a lot of time in meetings talking about your work (because those managers need to have something to do) leaving you little time to actually do it.

Not diverse enough.

Pros

Decent pto and benefits. Worked with a few people who were actually sincere in helping the community and their pets.

Cons

Poc hold the lowest positions. All of top management is usually white. No room for growth or just not offered. Don't really think the organization actually cares about animals. Seem very money hungry and dishonest. Depending on your position it can take a big toll on your mental health.
