Pros

There is a strong commitment to putting animals first. Your eithics and viewpoints will be respected. Compensation is fair amongst employees because they are strictly laid out by position and raises are generally standard.

Cons

Reporting numbers and organization bureaucracy will play a major role in an employees ability to advance. You will likely be asked to give more of your time without compensation for the sake of animals in need.

Pros

Good salary and benefits compared to similar jobs

Cons

Emotional abusive work environment. They encourage you to advocate and help animals and then act as if your crazy or discipline you when you speak up for animals being unjustly treated or euthanized. Your manager doesn’t know how to do the job they’re managing nor do they care to learn. So expectations are ridiculous and unfair to the animals and people. They will take a dog with behavior issues, keep them in the shelter for a month and then Wonder why their behavior is getting worse (even though the ASPCA says more than 2 weeks will degrade behavior in dogs because it’s not natural). Employee turn over is ridiculous so every team regardless of position is overworked. Raises are minimal(0-3%) and very little opportunity to move up, so no benefit of being a long time employee. you’ll end up attempting to train your managers and all other team members on the work you do and only being paid .50 cents more than the newest member on your team even though your working there for 3+ years. They literally have recommended a therapist to employees who have talked back, so consider that a requirement for employment. I want to be clear, this is coming from someone who left on good terms.
