Pros

Great company, well-known brand, opened door to other opportunities beyond the company. AT&T has one of the best leadership program in the business.

Cons

Too big, sometimes you can get lost in the mix. It may be slow to make a decision which can be frustrating. Company may encourage conformity and I did feel sometime that having a different opinion is not encouraged especially when dealing with senior management. In that regards, AT&T may seem to be too hiererchical.

Pros

A large company that needs regulatory approval, so layoffs don't occur very frequently. Most of IT is salaried with flex time and not expected to work a lot of overtime.

Cons

Performance reviews are basically given on a scale of 1-4 where no one gets a 4 and a 1 means you are on the edge of being fired and no one receives a 1 either. Direct management gives little feedback on what you need to do for promotions. Many people in IT lower management do not keep their skills and knowledge updated because there are no repercussions for lack of performance. No conferences and very little training outside of vendor provided one day onsite classes. CEO compensation annually ranking as one of the most outrageous while the rest of the company is told to cut expenses.

Pros

The opportunity to retire or quit.

Cons

This is a company the structured itself to establish virtual organizations - a boss in one place with a staff distrubuted across many sites. After this was done the travel budget was slashed making it impossible to develop any form of professional relationship. Also, at One AT&T Center in St. Louis, management turned off every other ceiling light to say money; trash is picked-up every 5 business days and the rest rooms may or may not get cleaned. But at least they say they value their employess.
