Pros

Discounted land line service, cell phone service, and if you're lucky U-verse service. The giant AT&T is a very stable place to work, no worries of the company going belly up anytime soon.

Cons

Long hours in IT, low pay against the rest of the industry. Health care programs are average to poor. Innovative new ideas are kept in check by the massive nature of the company, therefor it's not able to jump on the new developments in a timely manner. Career advancement and progressions are difficult to get excited over due to the huge number of employees, they can't give large bonuses or raises annually.

Pros

Great pay for no work. Hire a couple of contractors and get them to do all the work. The executive senior management is very focused but the Middle level managers are leftovers from the wireline business. THe middle level management has no clue on what needs to be done in terms of execution. There are a lot of people who should have been laid off or re-assigned years ago. Folks that work are motivated but are not generally given challenging assigments. Most of them are highly educated doing rudimentary jobs.Contractor pay is great and some of them make 250,000 a year running lame tests.

Cons

No work can be boring. Pay rises can be stagnant. Better to leave and come back as contractor.
