Pros

- Close to home, good salary for the area - Flexibility with working hours during pay period, -The department I work for has management that does care about the individual workers - Healthcare benefits are very good, with the eyecare being better than my govcon dad's

Cons

- I've heard other departments can have wild hours and use mistakes on paperwork to block chances for raises. My department has good people in it, but sometimes they assume that people can do things they haven't been properly trained for (admin side of the department) -I'd prefer a little more employee engagement. We've only had an ice cream truck and a food truck so far this year, so what's this entertainment committee doing?

Pros

Major investments (millions) being made in renovations of facilities, expanding R&D, and new tech innovation projects to modernize this very old company. Benefits and generous leave policy is very good - rivaling major biotechs in the DC area. Gov contracts division is like it’s own company and doing very well. Some groups are incredible and highly motivated, major sources of fresh inspiration and energy.

Cons

Factions are rampant. Many in middle management are long term “lifers” who are the biggest barriers to change. Very protective of their sandboxes even if it’s bad for the company. Many actively resist opportunities to modernize and try to avoid upsetting the apple cart. They still use paper and clipboards in the labs - so tons of time wasted on paperwork! Gets old fast. Lots of people complaining / whining constantly in some groups creates a toxic atmosphere - and immediate supervisors join in instead of leading by example.

Pros

Everyone outside of the repository team was pleasant to interact with

Cons

Cronyism. Manager and team lead give horrible a new meaning. Lead has anger management issues and manager covers for him because she doesn’t like to come in and work. Lead does all the work and keeps techs in a constant state of emotional distress and to *DO HIS JOB* which is to train. Lead prefers to cuss you out and abuse you verbally and basically everything in between just so he can avoid doing his actual job. Manager was so horrible at her job she was demoted, interim manager even more clueless. Tech coworkers aid the hostile/toxic environment by being overly shady. They utilize underhanded tactics to gaslight and emotionally abuse you as well as lie on your name. Pay is between 33-41k. Not worth the emotional pain better off at McDonald’s or somewhere where your skills and hard work actually mean something.
