Cheap. Only those in the good old boys network get paid well, others not so much. Yearly increases never keep up with inflation rates.

There is no upward mobility without risky pushes against status quo. Promotions must be because you're leaving and have a better offer, or you've already been doing the work of someone else and ask for a raise/promotion or no one will do the work anymore.
