Pros

If you land in a great team, you get fantastic support for growth and are formed into a valuable and central part of the team.

Cons

If you land in a bad team, you might be treated like a human compiler, handed specs and asked to code them out, with little career trajectory or oversight of why you do what you do. Salary is banded company wide, and going by "market rate" which means past a certain point of talent, they can't afford you anymore. Ultimately, the best engineers leave to higher paying companies.
