Pros

- Engineers are given meaningful challenges that grow their skills without burning them out - Work-life balance is respected — hard work during business hours is expected, but overtime is rare - The mission is grounded in helping people with real financial hardship, and that purpose comes through in the product - Strong internal communication and solid engineering leadership that values transparency and pragmatism - Remote-first culture works well, with flexibility and trust in the engineering org

Cons

- Domain is niche and sometimes stigmatized — “debt relief” can be a tough sell externally, even if the work is impactful - Some legacy systems and tech debt (like any mature product), which can slow things down or create friction - As with many mid-size companies, org changes and shifting priorities can create ambiguity at times

Pros

The pay at Achieve is somewhat competitive and remote working is an option that provides better work/life balance. My team and some peers are very skilled and incredibly supportive.

Cons

If you're considering working with or at Achieve, turn around now and run the other way. This company is a textbook example of how not to run a business. Financial incompetence is woven into the very fabric of the place. They can't seem to manage a budget or even create one. It is ignorant that certain expenses are not stopped to preserve cash and it's expected for employees to do more with less. Are they are in denial or do they just not care? (a common question by many) Their answer is to let primary employees go, not because of performance issues, but because management lacks the knowledge and caring to fix processes and money issues the hard way. Incompetent favorites are saved with each round of layoffs. I can't wait to see the next genius idea from these employees that will ultimately fail again. It's not uncommon to hear whispers of unpaid invoices, delayed payments or urgent scrambles just to keep essential services running. The financial instability trickles down into every corner of the company, creating a toxic environment of uncertainty and mistrust. Achieve is a 20+ year company and they still rely heavily on investor funding. That should tell you a lot. Specifically, management in Finance. Calling them leadership would be laughable if it weren't so frustrating. They are unmotivated, unqualified and uninterested in anything beyond preserving their own positions. Direction is non-existent and self-intitiave dies a slow death under their watch. If you ask them for help in resolving a situation, they ignore you or make an excuse to avoid getting involved. They lack skills necessary to effectively lead teams.

Thank you very much for your candid feedback. As our new leader of HR, I would love the opportunity to speak with you in detail about your experience as it's not at all aligned to our culture nor our expectations around the employee experience and our leadership standards. I would like to note that there appears to be a disconnect about the current financial situation of the company as we are exceeding growth targets and beating budgets while experiencing all-time record demand for our services. This does not diminish your experience which is what I'm interested in hearing more about. I highly encourage you to reach out to me directly. We can keep the conversation confidential if you prefer. Please email me at: hmarcom@achieve.com. I look forward to connecting, Thank you!
