Toxic Sales Managers in Lending

Recommend
CEO approval
Business Outlook

Pros

Conveniently located in Tempe. Hybrid work.

Cons

The sales managers in personal loans are toxic. They demean and disparage the sales floor. They often mock employees. Many of them have been with the company for years and company leadership seems to be afraid of them. No corrective action is taken to improve the toxic culture. It just isn't worth it because the base pay is low compared to other employers in the area. They frequently change the commission plans in ways to shift more money to the company and less in the paycheck. Benefits are just ok. Stingy with vacation. Healthcare is expensive. The sales floor is sort of diverse, but the management team is not at all. It is not a welcoming environment.

Pros

The managers are nice but I am unsure if it’s genuine as there is a ton of gaslighting.

Cons

Goodness where to start. This company is clueless on how to run a sales team. They were sued for fraud and I can see why. Training is a train wreck, you will get a different answer to a question with each different manager in training but it won’t matter because when you out of training you get in trouble for using what training teaches you. If you don’t have experience good luck because with what they teach you, they put you in positions to be personally liable. I am assuming everyone was hired internally because the trainers are uneducated are the laws and liabilities surrounding the harm they are teaching. They don’t pay their employees they just raised the hourly rate which is still less than 10% above minimum wage. I can only assume the rating is so high because the executives are leaving feedback. Don’t bother giving feedback the managers don’t listen instead they gaslight you to tell you why they do it that way. Another company that says “ we have always done it this way” . They laid off most of their sales rep last year because they are listening to the top reps that don’t sell deals honestly and the people that sell the right way make less money . They can’t play top Performers calls in their entirety because they aren’t honest. They literally pay the lowest commission rate in the industry and justify it by saying some thing that rewards shady sale. They brag about culture but when you can’t pay your people it speaks volumes. The only people who are successful game the system in multiple ways. When you point it out they say that is not company policy. So they put you in a position to either be successful or follow rules no one does. Management does pushback to higher ups. You hear a lot of we have been complaining about this for years but it’s just the way it is. The customer service team seems to hate sales and treat the clients accordingly , the retention team is a joke. This company makes their sales reps do way more work than I have ever seen for less than half the money.

Pros

Smart colleagues and people work hard

Cons

Political and toxic culture, audience of one (co-founder), management makes bad business decisions. Not a data driven company. People are afraid to speak the truth.
