Pros

Caring teaching staff and the interview process is rigorous. They seem to want to work with you, especially regarding commuting which is huge in NYC.

Cons

The work leaves you burnt out and trying to survive. Sink or swim.

Pros

Strong teacher development and support. Opportunities to grow and advance within the network.

Cons

Very demanding as far as physical presence, time, and teacher output, as well as emotionally. Many of the people I work with are extremely invested in our scholars and their overall student experience. That comes with people being heavily invested in the work, but also feeling burnt out.

Working for Achievement First

Pros

Achievement First schools provide you with full curriculum and lesson plans which makes it easier to have a work life balance. They also have LOTS of support whenever you need it. The principals are really involved, the coaches and deans are required to help and support teachers.

Cons

Working at Achievement First can be physically and mentally draining but that can be said about any teaching job. The key is to build the experience and get to know all there is about your grade and content so that things can get easier.
