Pros

There is an incredible amount of growth at this position depending on the situation at the school. You are either slowly pulled into the classroom for observations, or learning through experience

Cons

The con to this position is if the school is unstable, since the moment that a teacher quits, you may be thrown into the class alone.

A Magical Place

Pros

I work at Endeavor Elementary (one of many Achievement First elementary schools in Brooklyn). I worked for 2 different Charter Networks prior to working for Achievement First and I can truly say I would never work anywhere else. It is such a magical place to be everyday! Leadership team is so supportive and really pushes you to grow and be better daily. The scholars...where can I start? They are the smartest, coolest, kindest, and most inspiring children in New York. They work so hard all day in all academic areas and also grow personally through our social emotional curriculum. You will work VERY hard working for an Achievement First school but I am telling you, it is so worth it. You will grow not only as a professional and also personally working for this network. It challenges you in all of the best ways. Endeavor Elementary is my forever home. No where else would compare.

Cons

You work really hard and sometimes do work on your personal time but it is not necessarily a con in my opinion. All AF teachers work REALLY hard and the leadership team at your school is always there to support you to find a great work life balance and ways to manage your time best. To some, this may be a con, so I wanted to note it here.

Pros

Nurturing Environment: Leadership is EXTREMELY positive and supportive. They work with you to help develop and hone your teaching. This is my first year as an AF team member and after only 3 months, my teaching has grown tremendously. I can only imagine where I will be at the end of the year! Strong Family Investment: All families are extremely invested in their child's learning and deeply care about their child's growth. Organization: My school is extremely organized. This helps to nurture both a calm and cohesive environment where the expectations are the same in every school. Awesome Students: Enough said! Our scholar's are amazing! Loving: This network loves their teachers and they are not afraid to show it! Cards of gratitude, food ,coffee trucks and tons of shout outs are just a few of the ways our leadership shows us gratitude at least once a weak.

Cons

Long Hours: Teachers are considered late promptly at 7:06. School lets out at 4:05. Early Mornings: Waking up at 5 is not the most fun. HARD WORK: Every AF staff member works very hard because we are all so invested in our students. Though working hard is not a con, it is definitely something to note. Working 10 to 11 hours a day is common practice. However, it is all in service of our students.
