Pros

I am so proud to be a part of family that values my gifts and talents. AF has been so supportive in allowing me to wear many hats over these last 7 years. I have witnessed both how dedicated and hard working our employees are from the network level ("behind the scenes"), and the magic that is happening in our schools as a result of super talented teachers and incredibly gifted kiddos.

Cons

Closing the Achievement Gap and preparing our kiddos to be awesome citizens of the world is hard work. As such, AF asks a lot from their employees in terms of time and energy. It's not for everyone. You have to be willing and able to dig in everyday and go the extra 3, 5, 20 miles with everything you have. For some, this may not be sustainable or realistic.

Pros

Strong adult culture. Schools are actually closing the achievement gap in Brooklyn.

Cons

As a veteran teacher, the work life balance is reasonable. However, some newer teachers at my school feel overwhelmed. They do receive lots of support to help out with finding the balance best for them.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to provide a review of AF. It’s motivating to hear that your school is not only a great place to work as an adult but also a place that is seeing real academic gains for scholars. This work can feel impossible and overwhelming at times (like you mentioned!) but we hope you’ve seen that the unparalleled support and coaching we provide for teachers makes it worth doing what we do. I appreciate you sharing your viewpoint and hope you have a solid finish to the school year. -Tom Kaiser, Chief Talent Officer
