Pros

When the kids love you, it is the best feeling to impact them so deeply. There are programs like Dojo/Parentsquare to help with family communication. We have half days on Fridays. *Sometimes* we have "wellness days" and can go home early.

Cons

The Friday half days let the kids go at 12:30 and teachers stay until 4 pm doing PD for hours. Some of the staff are trained in the "old way" and are a little culty and robotic. They claim to strive for racial equity, but some teachers act like this is prison for students in how they talk to/treat students of color. Talk about school to prison pipeline. There are no or little consequences for students who are violent towards other students or staff. Example: there is a child who constantly hits others when agitated, the student gets a "talking to" by admin and is put back in class. The school supposedly selects students via lottery- these awful kids need to be expelled. If you don't want to act right, let's get another kid in here. The workload for teachers is god awful. Teachers quit left and right because it's a lot of work.

Pros

Working with a younger group of people is nice. They provide all classroom supplies needed and didn't need to pay much out of pocket.

Cons

AF claims they want to retain their teachers year after year yet do not offer a realistic work/life balance. Then they ask for your feedback, but will not take any of it. They guilt their teachers into over working for the "kids", but is actually extremely toxic and burning out good teachers. Teachers have hardly any autonomy over how they teach or any rights. It is AF's way or no way. They also are extremely controlling over students' bodies and how they have to sit throughout the day. I would never recommend any child going to AF or anybody to work for AF.
