Pros

Competitive Salary, that is the only "pro."

Cons

Teachers are stretched too thin. They are expected to cover each other's classes because this company REFUSES to use substitutes. Teachers are forced to teach their classes+their colleague's classes during their ONLY planning time, in addition to having recess duty, morning duty, lunch duty, Plus dismissal duty.... The only way I was able to take a 20 minute lunch break, was if my colleague sacrificed minutes from HIS break to relieve me for lunch+ bathroom....This would extend for long leave of absences.... My colleague was on maternity leave for months. Admin had no plan to ensure that I would receive breaks consistently. Because apparently, I wasn't a human being like them. HIGH TURNOVER: Out of a staff of 36, 18 teachers quit within the first 6 months. STUDENTS ARE HELD TO LOW EXPECTATIONS: My co-teacher would tell students the questions they got wrong DURING EXAMS, and told students to change their answers. I told admin, and my instructional coach never held that teacher accountable for skewing data. Instructional coaches were too concerned with "being friends" with teachers-not actually trying to develop them or hold them accountable. Curriculum was also LOW RIGOR... Students run the school: I witnessed 7th graders attempt to fight teachers, and students sexually harass each other. Kids also walk around the school with bonnets on.. Parents are hostile and for lack of other words, "ghetto" we once had a parent get barred from school premises with possible restraining order taken against said parent. TEACHERS ARE NOT RESPECTED THERE: A week before school ended, I still had 7 days of PTO... I requested to use 2 of them (since they don't roll over). I needed those two days to take an elderly family member to their doctor's appointments, and admin's response was " are you SURE you need both days for doctor's visit?" Every teacher knows that the last week of school, kids are having parties, going on field trips, etc. There is no academic work taking place.. Yet, I was given PUSHBACK attempting to use 2 out of the 7 PTO days I was ENTITLED TO. At the end of it, they had the nerve to ask me to be a grade level chair! SMH
