Smart people, questionable management

Pros

Great people to work with. Most researchers have masters or PhD, everyone is on top of their work so you feel very motivated to work hard and smart

Cons

Company lacks technology infrastructure. People use Excel and Access as database and no newer tools. Management treats researchers better than the support teams. They also require everyone to return to office or people have to take a pay cut if working hybrid or remote.

Growing company Interesting work in healthcare Client facing roles early in tenure No layoffs Multiple offices Possible to switch teams Wide variety of projects Opportunities to change roles Option for full remote Allow switching office locations No hustle culture Option to between programming role and coordinator role Everyone becomes manager California location has ocean views Immigration support Allow prolonged unpaid leave

Low pay for first 2-3 years Too easy to become a manager Mandate 4 days per week in office Unable to retain experienced employees CEO very controlling and has no insight Upper management needs management training High attrition is a constant issue Cannot work remotely from outside of US DC and LA locations are in downtown Fractional staffing No clear pathways for upward or lateral feedback Management doesn't care about DEI or any other social factors Pay cut of 10-20% to go full remote Most people have no other work experience Hiring standards are not consistent

Pros

Creating important healthcare products for great customers. Very mission driven and research focused, half of it is a nonprofit. Company has a lot of smart people that are hardworking and kind. Good work life balance. Diverse.

Cons

Departments are in silos A lot will depend on your team culture No clear messages from the top or understanding of overall direction Low pay for Bay Area tech
