      Pros

      Total freedom to work on whatever you want provided you can justify that it is aligned with the organization's overall mission. Managers are more like mentors. Decision making is done by the people closest to the problem, not by people highest up. Perks are great but the reason why we have them is even better: everyone's time is valued so highly that they are encouraged to try to outsource anything that isn't core to the operations team or to outside service providers.

      Cons

      Lack of transparency in management. There is very little clear communication between the business side and engineering. For as much as Addepar talks about bringing transparency to the financial world, there is very little internally as to key metrics.

      Pros

      Engineer driven culture that demands smart and creative solutions to difficult problems in the finance space. Great diversity of people from many different backgrounds creates a really awesome work environment. Strong mentoring environment, people always looking out for each other and making sure everyone is growing. Meritocracy where every idea is considered regardless of source and everyone can be persuaded by a good and clear argument.

      Cons

      Resource constraints and tremendous client growth create large demand for new functionality and fixes to existing functionality. Must move quick and get stuff done.

      Pros

      The people are everything. They're ridiculously smart, a lot of fun to hang out with, and above all, you can trust that they're hard-working. There is no need for a manager to make sure you're doing your work because we all care. We push ourselves harder than anyone else can. Ironically, that results in a relaxed working environment. There's also a lot of perks. Free meals, housing stipend, gym stipend, benefits, and best-of-class technology, sports leagues, workshops, and finance and tech talks.

      Cons

      Addepar is not for the weak of heart. If you want a typical office 9 to 5 job, Addepar is definitely not it. We pull long hours, but only because we want to. It's a startup. But there is a decided unbalance in having a social life outside of work and the workweek.
