Pros

Adequate pay, potential for advancement, correctional nursing is the hidden diamond of nursing. , safe work environment. Core values of the company are sound, CEO is a wonderful leader and teacher, and truly cares about doing the right thing.

Cons

Very poor training for entry level staff, corporate level management does not support nursing staff, company will work you till exhaustion then refuse to pay Paid time off. If you take vacation days your viewed as not dependable. Company participates in a annual peer review that is often unprofessional and retaliatory between employees as a means to determine pay raises and retention.

the comapny supports single moms.. my supervisor works with me on my schedule.. great pay.. education reimbursement program.. i like the ppl i work with...

Cons

most of the inmates thank u and are polite... not all of them appreciate u tho.. some of their situations are very sad

Pros

You're exposed to a wide variety of ailments and injuries. You develop a good rapport with the correctional officers and they keep you safe. In the ER, your first response is to react in dangerous situations. In corrections, you just step back and let the officers handle it. I love it, I just need full time work.

Cons

You have to be thick-skinned. Challenging and dirty. Your assessment skills better be 100%. You never know what's coming in off the street. Sometimes it's annoying that everything has to be locked up. But it's for safety so that's OK.
