Pros

I met some really amazing people there.

Cons

Everything is wrong with this place. You work a rotating 12 hour schedule where you are basically working 60 hours one week and 24 the next, and you are on call various days throughout the month as well. Not to mention the "mandatory" meetings that you are required to attend in addition to an already demanding schedule. Truly, this job should not exist outside of a hospital. Patients lives are at stake and when it gets busy, the workload is many times too much for one person to handle, but everyone else is so busy that you are on your own. Things inevitably get placed on the back burner that need to be addressed quickly, and then you get dinged for it. You are typically trained in one area, but expected to take calls for all areas even when you do not know their protocols. How is this safe when a patients life is on the line? The stress is unreal. This just proves this company only cares about the bottom line. Favoritism and clicks run rampant here like a junior high school. When you are working here, you are this companies lowest priority. I really hope that more hospitals across the country start having their transfer centers in house so this place can be shut down.

Pros

Decent pay for normal HEMS job Great people at the base level Many bases give you many options of where you want to work and live

Cons

Horrible upper management micro managed no reward for working hard Impossible to get people from HQ to respond or answer questions Union is completely worthless, and you have to pay dues, whether you are a member or not Company has no issue changing contracts and not honoring the original contract. Air Methods HQ in Denver is nothing more than buddies hooking up buddies with management jobs, there are so many levels of management, yet it is impossible to get anything done. All Air Methods cares about it making the shareholders happy, and not about what is best for the employee or patient. The president Mike Allen, held a personal grudge against me and would not allow me to transfer back to a base in the US, told HR department that my choices were to stay in Haiti or resign and rehire as a new employee. This was because one of the Air Methods pilots who was picked to work in Haiti let somebody start a helicopter. After it was immediately and properly brought to the attention of management, all AMC employees working in Haiti were flown to Denver to get yelled at by Mike Allen (literally yelled at like basic trainees!) saying it was our fault this had happened, and saying he had known something like this was going to happen, ect... When he finished his rant and asked if there were any questions, I raised my hand and asked as to why this was our fault, after completely dedicating ourselves to the Haiti project with little or no support from HQ, many times having to get things and information we needed from previous base leads because emails and phone calls would go unanswered to Denver! And after we had all raised complaint and issue numerous times with the pilot who had violated policy and being told to just deal with him. And after living in often times unhealthy and unsanitary conditions to make that project a success and make the company shine, and always doing everything to the highest level of safety, always upholding or exceeding the FAA standard. And the fact that although this was Air Methods first debut of an international project, Mike Allen had never come down to see how things were going and to personal check on things, which according to him, where being done so poorly. He did not like my raised challenges I brought to him, and said he didn't have time for that, and had a plane to catch, and left the room. Really great representation of what the management thinks of their employees. It is unfortunate that a company that has so many awesome people working for it is ruined so many poor people in senior management.

Pros

Strong safety culture throughout company.

Cons

Seems a healthier employee culture at the base and program level than at HQ in Denver.
