A decent company, but your experience will vary greatly by which department you work in.

Pros

Pay is good for the area.

Cons

Greatly depends on your manager and your department. Some departments encourage work from home, flex-time and a positive work-life balance. Other departments expect long hours and to put work before family except for extreme cases.. Sick day policy could cause a person to quickly lose vacation with an illness. Benefit program punishes all for the mistakes made a level far higher than themselves and out of their control. No empowerment of the individual - red tape prevents change and removes need for accountability.

Pros

The people who work here are really nice. That's not always the easiest thing to find. They give you good training, but that comes a bit further down the line once you prove yourself in sales. You have to be a self-starter and very motivated. So if you can go out and make sales calls on a daily basis with a little knowledge to start then you can focus more on the things you need later in your sales process. If you can survive the first six months, then they train you very well. They provide a lot of sales training as well as technical sales knowledge of the industrial gas industry.

Cons

Air Products can be safety conscious to a fault. They do not have a very diverse product line like other competitors. They take a bit too long to provide the knowledge one needs to be successful early in the sales process. There is a lot of pressure for new sales reps to be successful, for example I know of certain reps that were fired within the first six months due to low success which was not necessarily their fault.

Pros

Great people everyone up to lower middle management seem to be bothered about their people Good working conditions Excellent opportunities to travel (dependent on role) Flexible if you need to work from home on occasion A brand new CEO not from the best mates club that used to be the way to the top....hopefully in for a great shake up

Cons

at the moment still too slow in making decisions has the mentality of a small engineering firm no consistency of plant build Managers will always pass the blame to others for their failings different departments are in silo's ,managers try to kingdom build a lot of us and them too busy with CI,non productive meetings , low cost sourcing Too many levels of process before you get to an end result Too many levels of management
