Pros

Very smart peopl. Very complex problems. New exciting technology. Lots of customer feedback and interaction

Cons

akamai is very stingy about compensation. They say that they are less competitive on salary and more competitive on bonuses but it seems they are not competitive in either case. akamai has very isolated groups and each of them are very high performance. I have seen extremely less interaction among groups. Groups/teams themselves are very less collaborative and thrive on individual performers. If you are someone who thrives on group effort this is not a place for you. You need to be solely competent who can work in a very fast paced environment and needs to be able to perform.

Pros

People are generally okay people. No toxic people. It is a tech company making technology.

Cons

- You might be assigned to work on tech that exists only at Akamai while being paid 30% below market rate. They do not understand that asking employees to lessen their chances of future employment by working only on tech that is not relevant for future jobs is a big ask for quality engineers. Big asks or sacrifices need to be balanced with significant pay. Below average engineers don't have much to loose, which they have in spades. - A lot of time is spent dealing with other people's poor communication skills. Few people are good a writing. I am having to type at least twice as many messages for the same outcome as previous companies I have worked at. There are meetings for everything because people are better at speaking than writing, but because nothing is written down there is no record of what happened. - All the engineers above the senior level that I have worked with would not be capable of being at the same level at any FAANG. They often create work rather then enable others to work better, which is a major requirement of a Staff or Principle engineer.

Pros

- talented people on the ground - salary and benefits are solid

Cons

- strategy dramatically shifts every 6 months - marketing leadership is inept at best, at worst they’re self aggrandizing, back stabbing, and HR time bombs - the culture in marketing is toxic where independent work is incentivized and employees are encouraged to battle each other - it’s all about the shiny red ball of the moment with no long-term strategy. It makes no sense that this company can’t focus on more than one product at a time. - your capacity and work boundaries don’t matter
