Pros

Pay seems good at first but you are working 12 hours a day. Good for recent college graduates to pay off loans. Overall a good experience.

Cons

Long days. Have to deal with seasickness. Have to be mentally tough to deal with being thought of as a "fish cop"

Pros

Good pay to get to see the wildlife most people never will. I've had a lot of my most memorable experiences doing this job. It's definitely not your regular 9-5, but who wants to spend life at a desk looking at a screen. Nothing mundane, always on different vessels with different crews seeing different fisheries and doing the hard work to maintain healthy stocks- very rewarding. Most people pay someone else to take them to see what we get to see.

Cons

Work is on an on-call basis, so you need to be available and ready to get on a vessel in a 24hr notice. That being said during times of low activity or bad weather you have free time to pursue your interests and I think the balance of that is great.
