Pros

Good colleagues, and nice supervisor too. Stable work environment before the financial crisis. Very traditional and process oriented. Cares about people, at least appears to be so.

Cons

Too conservative and too many rules. Slow progress in almost everything. Won't hesitate for cost cut.

Pros

* Lives its Values! Very serious about integrity, ethics, the environment, safety, inclusion, employee engagement and giving back to our communities. You can trust that Management will actually do what it says it's going to do. * Huge multi-national corporation with diversity of business units means you can have just about any career path you want, all with the same company. Alcoa is willing to transfer and promote based on behaviors and performance, not just based on "did you have this exact title before?". * The market may go up or down, but the world is always going to need aluminum. Alcoa is the company that invented the commercial aluminum smelting process. It has been around for 125 years and has never filed for bankruptcy. It's a company you can stay with for 40 years. You can be proud to be an Alcoan.

Cons

* Management is often "penny-wise and pound-foolish" when confronted with stock price and LME fluctuations. It's the curse of ALL publicly-traded corporations that they react to the quarterly results. * Size and bureaucracy can be confusing or frustrating. It's difficult for newcomers to learn how to navigate the organization. No one will take your hand and guide you. * Career opportunities are available but are not always publicized, and paths for progression can look murky. You have to be willing to reach out, build networks and take initiative to advance yourself.
