Pros

Once you get hired and trained in, its pretty easy to get a raise if you threaten to leave. They need everyone they have and can't afford to lose anyone. Many of the supervisors and managers are great and are also suffering like everyone else. There is potential for a lot of overtime if you are only in it for the money. If you can learn about what several of the treatments are being used for, it does help you put value in your work. Some of these therapies are amazing to hear about. Get 1 year of experience here and you are set up to be highly desirable on the job market.

Cons

There will be lots of overtime, especially if you work the 2nd shift. Sometimes (usually 1-2 days of your 4 day work week) the shift goes from 3 pm to 4-7 am. Good luck trying to get a lunch break in. The managers and supervisors are struggling big time with a new online system that was integrated. This system is touchy and easily slows or cancels 1/3 - 1/2 of all production every day. If you have the patience to spend ~two hours clicking buttons just to move a container of media a couple hundred feet, this is perfect for you. Honestly, don't plan to stay for long. Come in, make some quick cash in a low cost of living area, get the biotech experience and get out after ~1 year. I have offers for $8.50/hr more and $35K/year more from two other companies at the moment in better places to leave. The company doesn't have much to offer you for long term growth. The only employees that get stuck here and move up are the ones with kids. The best shift to work in for GMP Manufacturing is 1st shift Upstream. From there its: 1st shift Upstream > 1st shift Downstream > 2nd shift Upstream > 2nd shift Downstream. The 2nd shift Downstream operators just look miserable if you walk by them. If you start as a lab tech you can usually move to an operator position within a year because they are afraid of losing you.

Pros

Co-workers, supervisors, managers, and a few directors are lovely to work with. A great place to get industry experience, and decent pay for the area. The work we do and the what were involved in is cool.

Cons

High turn over within GMP Downstream caused by a shift to a new schedule that we did not have the trained operators to handle, despite expressing these concerns to supervisors and managers. We lost the most experienced operators to the expansion of other departments, and now none of us are really properly trained. A training room was created to help with this, but that's laughable at best and not a solution to our problems. The workload is unrealistic and the amount of times we've been expected to stay well past our shift is outrageous. There is no work/life balance at Aldevron. You live to work, not work to live. Almost every person in leadership who actually listened to us, fought for us, and seemed to care are now gone.

Pros

Science behind everything is cool.

Cons

Management is horrible. Every supervisor has quit within the last couple months and they are bribing the last supervisor to stay for 6 months by giving her a bonus. Absolutely no communication and training is nonexistent. Worst decision I made was accepting the job in Downstream Manufacturing. Imagine a flooded city street with a dumpster on fire in the center and that’s Aldevron. Work expectations are completely unrealistic. I worked a 16 hour shift the other day and got in trouble for not staying longer to finish things.
