Pros
This company is genuinely trying to improve healthcare. There are occasional hard decisions for business sustainability, but I've always seen the ultimate goal of better patient (and doctor) care prioritized. Pay is mid-range, and hours can be long, so this might not be a place for those who don’t care about U.S. health reform. But for those who do, I don’t know that there is a better place to work. There's flexibility in hours and location, making work-life balance manageable, and a six-week sabbatical after six years is a great perk.
Cons
I love my co-workers, great people. But: most managers I’ve had are good at task management and deliverables but lack actual people-managing skills. Many have seemed drawn to management because they like having direct reports rather than caring about team building or employee development. Career progression requires self-advocacy. There's room for improvement in organizational efficiency, but that’s probably expected at a rapidly growing company.
