Pros

Remote work. Self-paced training. You'll never be fired because they need the warm bodies desperately.

Cons

The pay is extremely low for the work they demand. "Work until it's done; not when your hours are up" - This is a direct quote from management on how they want their current employees to handle the increased workload due to lack of retention. There is no work/life balance. People work on their sick days because there's too much work to get done. Training is done through videos. If you're lucky a team member might answer your questions.

Pros

The vast majority of positions are now 100% full virtual/remote. Colleagues are smart, experienced, and client-focused, and in general will go above-and-beyond to make go-live dates and pitch in to resolve problems. The organization does an excellent job recognizing and celebrating diversity in all its forms. They walk the walk and are a model of "equal opportunity employer."

Cons

Alight has outsourced the vast majority of technical resources to an offshore contracting house. This makes it extremely difficult for those colleagues in the U.S. to address urgent technical issues during the U.S. workday, much less make swift, agile progress on planned projects and development. This forces both onshore and offshore colleagues to work either very early or very late in their local workday (or both) to be able to get almost all work done during "overlap" hours. Also, Alight has won very large client contracts that require all work to be done in the U.S., including systems operations, production support, quality assurance testing, etc. Unfortunately the organization is severely understaffed domestically for these functions, and the current talent shortage makes that even more difficult as people leave for other organizations. Finally, middle-tier leadership has been a revolving door of people who leave in less than 2 years, so direction and priorities are always changing when a new leader comes in.
