Pros

Met some great co-workers, good experience working on implementation of a well-designed new data warehouse. Decent pay rate and vacation allowance. Work itself was interesting.

Cons

Unrealistic expectations about how much time staff should be available to management during out of office hours. On-call is one thing, but it needs to be balanced with some consideration that your employees have lives, families, hobbies, etc. and arguably (on a normal week) 128 hours they should expect to be free to do whatever they want. Also, I was buried under layers of multiple managers, directors, technical lead and agile team leaders, and when you're stuck so low on the totem pole (despite being hired in a Senior position), there are a whole lot of people barking orders at you because they're trying to cover their own you-know-what and it really became unpleasant. Office politics and favoritism were tiresome. There was a very high rate of turnover in the department while I was there, and it seems management is OK with that.

Pros

My department had a good management team, most coworkers are good at what they do and are very good with team work when needed.

Cons

Department management levels either resigned recently, retired, eliminated. Elimination of shift(s) causing single coverage for Evening and Night shift that need that extra person. I am working single coverage with no help from anyone 3 sometimes 4 days a week. Pay is below the poverty level. No cost if living raise since I have been with the company and those who have been there 15+ informed me that they have not received a cost of living raise for the past 10 years.

Pros

- an income - teams of friendly, overworked, undervalued people

Cons

- extreme micromanagement - 60 to 80 work weeks - no recognition for hard work - favoritism - failure to meet unrealistic customer expectations results in backlash on the team - toxic workplace environment
