      Great brands, but struggling to innovate beyond the core business

      Pros

      - Great brands: Marlboro, Copenhagen, Skoal, Black & Mild - Solid balance sheet and market capitalization (Fortune 200) - Culture of camaraderie in some parts of the organization that make it fun to come to work every day - Good compensation and benefits - Commitment to attract and retain talent

      Cons

      - Lack of empathy with the consumer - Risk adverse culture that negatively impact company's ability to innovate beyond the core business - Controversial product category (Tobacco) - Declining cigarette category which is responsible for 90%+ of Altria revenues - Low diversity in some parts of the organization, which translates in old-school line of thought

      Good pay and benefits, but limited advancement opportunities, declining industry

      Pros

      - Excellent compensation, starts at $54k for territory sales managers - 401k / Profit Sharing is tough to beat. 3% match 401k plus 15% of annual salary - Territory sales manager get company car, computer, internet and cell phone bill reimbursed - Company is responsible, does not market its products to kids

      Cons

      - Tobacco industry is declining, so cost-cutting will only continue - Altria plays it too safe, always afraid of getting sued - Countless brand extensions that nobody wants. Not innovative enough - Altria outsources almost all IT, despite how much they rely on it. - A lot of people at HQ are full of themselves, not responsive to feedback - Altria's biggest opportunity is with advancement opportunities. There's no way to search internally for open positions in the field sales force or at HQ. Also, Altria is more interested in your willingness to relocate (not have a family) than your talent.
