An OK starter job

Pros

A good place to get experience but it depends on what department you're assigned to.

Cons

Bad code base. Not enough experienced programmers. Not a lot of code reviews or standards but they are working on getting better in some departments. Depends on which team you are on. Not much room for advancement unless you are friends with the boss.

Pros

Banker Holidays, 3 monitors, 401k matching

Cons

It's an 8:30-5:00 job but they expect you to work more than 40 hours a week without extra pay. Managers are not willing to help you grow with the company. Not much PTO or sick time. You start off with 2 weeks of PTO but it takes awhile to get up to 3 weeks. Team members do not stick around long. Pay is low compared to other companies for software engineers.

Pros

There are tons of software developers in the Cleveland office which means that there is always someone you can relate to. It's not uncommon to be on another floor and hear someone talk about something that you are working on but they are talking about another part. A lot of people have bad reviews about AmTrust but I think it depends on the team you get on (tons of different teams and projects). I started with VB.net and webforms and am now doing the latest projects for the company. They absolutely respect you if you get things done well. Tons of experience learning how different products connect together. AmTrust moved to direct hire from when I started at contract-to-hire only. They pay for parking at the Muny lot or give you $25 a paycheck to park where you want. Gym on site ($35 a month). Free trolley from muni lot to work

Cons

Pay seems lower for the area but not unreasonable. Again, depending on the team you could be miserable. I see many people that look like they hate their jobs. I hate downtown and there are tons of homeless waiting for you to leave work to ask for money. No bonuses and low cost of living adjustments. Everyone seems to be stressed out all the time.
