Pros

- fast paced - interesting work - always shipping is addictive

Cons

- no process (its day one every day and that is not a good thing) - high level politics force astounding attrition - limited growth - 80 hour work weeks for L6 (Senior) staff If you do not change teams every year, it is likely you will get managed out before you realize your RSUs, so don't bet the farm on any total comp offered. There is little if any career development unless you luck out on a decent manager and skip manager, but even in those cases, there is no stability in reporting chains.

Pros

Shopping at Whole Foods in Rochester. Nice atmosphere, other employees for Amazon and Whole Foods are nice. Low pressure job, no micromanaging. You are guaranteed paid training, 3 days training plus 2 hours at home online paid training. You are guaranteed 1 shift to work because during the training they show you how, and have you go online and choose your first shift.

Cons

No management at all! Worked there almost a month, never met my manager.. never!Apparently she manages 3 or 4 stores. Scheduling shifts is a farce. You wait for shifts to be announced 3 times a week at 7:30 pm. You go on a web site and the shifts are posted. Well, ALL shoppers are competing for the same shifts at the same time. If you're not extremely quick, you DO NOT get a shift. Also, they are supposed to post at7:30 pm well, they were 15 minutes late posting on Sunday, they posted 2 hours early on Tuesday, and an hour and a half late on Thursday. After the first week of work, I was only able to pick up 1 shift in 3 weeks... not without trying...sheer luck of the draw. Amazon promotes this job saying its flexible and you can choose your own shift, well yes, if they are not all gone within the nanosecond it takes them to post snd you to view. And you can definitely not work choose more than one shift because once the first one you chose is confirmed, the rest are all taken. Once you do get a shift, you wait in a cold but clean room at Whole Foods. And you wait and you wait for a grocery order to come in. I've gotten 9 item orders and I've gotten 52 item orders. But they come in few and far between. There is nothing else to do but shop. If no order, you stand and wait.

Pros

This was by far my favorite job I ever had. I only left because I couldn't take the commute, and that's Seattle's fault, not Amazon. I felt like a valued member of my team, I was trusted to work autonomously, and set my own schedule, as long as the job got done. You're surrounded by some of the most ambitious and smartest people in the world, and everyone is working toward the same goal. I left on great terms, and it's great o know I have made lasting connections there. The EA community is the best I've ever worked with, and I loved my directors and VP. I always made it point to interact and be nice to the support staff (receptionists, security, janitors, etc.) because while they work on campus, they aren't employed by Amazon directly and don't get the fun perks. And dogs are super cool!

Cons

Listening to developers, who wander in sometime around 11 or 12, complain about how late they have to work, like almost to 8 o'clock! That's eight hours, you privileged snots. That's really the biggest con. You're surrounded by people who've never worked a service job in their life, thinking that they're sooooooooo oppressed because they don't get free food. And there is the occasional dog owner who like having a dog at work, but don't like the responsibility of owning one. The amount of tickets I had to submit for poop cleanup was ridiculous (another reason to be nice to the janitors)
