Pros

The best reasons to work at Amazon would be the following: resume building, experience in a dynamic environment, where you could design and run with a project. There can be room to make your position what you'd like it to be if you're on the right team.

Cons

The downsides to working at Amazon would be the following: it's very political, there are a lot of back-stabbers, you cannot trust your peers or HR, you do not get the support you need to run projects, you don't have the tools you need to do your job, and the constant changes make some processes very manual.

Pros

I really appreciate the customer focus.

Cons

While they pride themselves on long-term strategy, it's not a universal theme, and many areas are too focused on short-term success. Not enough clear organization and planning, poor communication.

Pros

Surviving the abuse will give you unbelievable skills. Most of your peers are incredibly smart, competent, and talented people who will teach you all the things you didn't learn in school.

Cons

They don't tell you that "TDD" stands for "Ticket-Driven Development". The whole company lives and dies by the trouble ticketing system, but generally the accepted software engineering best practices are ignored. Since there is such an amazing trouble ticket system and nothing gets done unless it's a ticket, managers force death marches to launch awful code that is debugged one high severity ticket at a time by whomever is on-call. The attrition rate speaks for itself.
