Pros

Amazon provides amazing benefits. They provide very generous time off policies and a week of paid vacation within the first year. You will get feedback directly from customers about your performance.

Cons

The cons are specifically that direct feedback from customers. There are no other metrics for evaluating an customer service agents performance. The customer reviews and average handle time for calls are all there is. You will be judged by the customers and if you are unable to go outside of the Amazon policy on something, basically, something you cannot change, Amazon will find fault in you for it. They don't set negative reviews at zero, but it is impossible to meet the standards without going against the very well defined company policy. IF you transfer to a supervisor, that supervisor will go outside of the policy and STILL allow you to get the negative review for the customer.

Pros

-Amazon has its hands into everything and this goes for all its business units. Whatever your profession or career level, you will become experienced with all facets of your job. -Great compensation package but also known as "Golden Handcuffs". -You are given a lot of responsibility and control over your department. You have a big impact wherever you are.

Cons

-There is no work/life balance (60-70 h/w) and due to the aforementioned "Golden Handcuffs", you are not given much choice in adjusting any imbalance. -The Amazon culture is Darwinian. This has led to significant levels favoritism. -I was forced to stack rank my direct reports and place the lower half on performance plans regardless of their actual performance.

Pros

There was a lot to like. The work is interesting, there's a lot of smart people, and I learned a LOT. If this is your first job out of college and you want to work a LOT, then great. If you have a family, don't work here.

Cons

Everyone worked 60 hours a week or more and they'll expect you to work the same. I would get guidance from my manager on what he wanted me to be working on over the weekends. 10pm conference calls are routine. And pager duty is a nightmare. I got to watch my young son cry because I was working too much. That was it, I got out. I looked at transferring, so I talked to my manager about it. The next day he put me on probation to stop it.
