The best thing about working at Amazon is getting to work on extremely difficult problems with incredibly brilliant people. The environment encourages proactive people and empowers you to change the things you think are broken.
Cons
Hard work is hard work, and difficult problems are difficult. Oncall is a big issue for most engineers at Amazon. The oncall burden varies by team. The competency of management can also vary widely by team. The good ones are exceptional, but the bad ones are pretty bad.
